An "arras" is a rich, high quality tapestry used historically by European nobility. The term comes from Arras, a city in northern France that was the premier center of European tapestry production during the 14th and 15th centuries. The weaving industry in Arras was so famous that people eventually begin using arras as the general term for any elaborate, beautiful, and rich tapestry.
Through repetition and active material manipulation, this tapestry explores patterns and parallels that are shared between the almost meditative processes in which it was formed. The flowing, rhythmic pattern of the twine, a fragile and loose material, woven directly through the hand-made stoneware discs, vitrified and solid, but also unintentionally fragile.
The tapestry creates a rich chime with the slightest breeze or movement. It is so beautiful but also terrifying due to the fragility and breakable nature of ceramic. You listen and watch with bated breath.
The tapestry represents the vulnerable and anxious nature that comes with being an artist. Putting your art, your soul, yourself out into the world for all to judge. To tell your story, sharing and showing how you have changed and grown throughout your life. Layer by layer a change occurs.

These sculptures are made to be transplanted directly into our waterways to help with the ongoing restoration efforts for oysters and oyster reef habitats.
There shape, reminiscent of the horseshoe crab, allows for the perfect surfaces for oysters to attach and grow. The narrow end will be pushed into the muddy ground, allowing the arched wide end to sprout up and into the water column where oyster larvae can grab onto.
During the first few weeks of their lives, oyster larvae are microscopic and swim freely through the water column using tiny hair-like structures. Once they find a suitable hard surface—like these ceramic sculptures—they secrete a natural cement to glue themselves down forever to grow!
The hardened, porous texture of these sculptures closely mimic natural oyster shells, making it the perfect environment for oyster larvae to attach. In less than a year in the water, an average of 101 oysters can colonize a single artificial piece.
